LONG SUTTON “LIGHTING UP “ 2025
The Council wishes to thank everyone for their support which enabled the Council to hold the annual “Lighting Up” event.
The event had been in peril due to the difficulty of the Long Sutton Lighting Up committee meeting the ever increasing costs of holding the event which was initially the brainchild of D Cllr Andrew Tennant and his wife Cllr Melanie Tennant.
As one of the attendees said on the night that “when attending the event and seeing our church looking so lovely it means the beginning of Christmas our family” and it means the same to many more.
The Parish Council resolved to underwrite any shortage of funds to ensure the event was held and look to take over the event in future years.
The council received over 600 requests to display the names of loved ones on the media star which is on show in the church during the event, remembering both those lost and those celebrating.
A singer provided a lovely musical backdrop and Firefly entertainers provided entertainment for the children.
The Council wish to especially thank the volunteers who provided the Santa Run, who gathered together to build a Santa sleigh and to provide free gifts to all children who attended. They also kindly donated the funds raised on the night to the next “Lighting Up” event. Without their help it would have been much more difficult to have held the event.
The true spirit of Christmas and community was alive and well in Long Sutton!
